What Would You Do Scenario: Nationwide Regional Blackouts

You live in the northern part of the United States. There is a blizzard coming that is expected to last about 4 days with a record amount of snow as well as subfreezing temperatures expected for the next 2 weeks. Weather modification you think to yourself. You think of @squirrelbait’s blog. Especially the one she posted years ago about a "terrorist attack” taking down the grid during the worst part of winter. Mass fear. Mass death. Cheap. Easy. Perfect plan. You decide to go to the store and pick up “just a few things” after all, you are not some sort of doomsday prepper or conspiracy theorist. You shake off the thoughts of weather modification and conspiracies. Been online too much, you think.

While at the store there just so happens to be several items on sale. As you put two 24 packs of bottled water in your cart mumbling about possible frozen pipes, you giggle to yourself. I have to stop reading @squirrelbait’s posts. I really do. To your amazement, you just about filled the cart. You have a quick flashback from the COVID days as you look at the toilet paper you put in your cart.

Your phone blares the ear piercing national emergency message. It basically informs you that there are large regional blackouts across the nation due to a terrorist attack on the nation’s grid. Stay calm and stay in your home. Martial law has been declared for the affected areas. A range of authoritative agencies will be out to enforce it. You know, local authorities, national guard, etc. The enforcement entails up to and including the use of deadly force. <br <br

That message sure was quick, you think to yourself. Like it was already written and ready to go. How do they know what happened so quickly?

You realize that your phone only allows emergency use. Cell towers must be down, restricted satellite usage through the provider is all there is. No additional methods of information gathering available. Just the darkness with your phone as your manager. Stay calm. Stay indoors. Stay home. For how long? The message did not say. You look out the window. The blizzard is here. The wind is banging against the windows. The temperature is dropping…….

What was it that @squirrelbait said? No power = no water pumps, no gas pumps, once generators run out, no medical care, no nuclear plant safe shutdown unless they completed the procedures while on generator power , no one is coming to help only to herd and take.

Now what? What do you do? What should you do first? How are you going to stay warm? What concerns do you have? What kind of plans would you make? How would you survive this?

Design a prepper’s plan.

Keep in mind, that although you do not have power, the authorities do. Endless supplies coming into them for generators, gas for vehicles, etc. Also, all the cameras around town are solar powered and connected to the internet via Starlink.

I will let you think about this for a few days and then I will post my scenario notes/plan. Feel free to post yours too!!!!! We can compare and fine tune our emergency plans.
