Let's talk about my routine.
As a song by the late Spanish singer María de los Ángeles de las Heras Ortiz—known in the artistic world as Rocío Dúrcal—suggests, it is true that habit is stronger than love , and on this point, I am almost in complete agreement. Something performed daily and automatically—something that has already solidified into a habit—is difficult to change unless, as Napoleon Hill wrote, one's willpower proves to be the stronger force.
Since moving to the United States, I have been changing many things in my life—habits that, upon closer inspection, contributed absolutely nothing toward bringing me closer to my short-, medium-, and long-term goals. Consequently, it was unnecessary to continue maintaining them.
However, changing them overnight is an incredibly arduous task—it takes every ounce of effort one can muster.
Yet, I have learned something important from the books I have set out to read: If I want to go far, I simply have to take the first step, and then, I must not stop until I have advanced and reached exactly where I want to be. Adverse situations will undoubtedly arise—of that, I have no doubt—but those situations exist precisely to reveal my character, my resilience, and my faith in what I have believed I can achieve.
I resolved to write a few books, after having postponed this desire for a very long time; perhaps the timing wasn't right, or perhaps I was afraid of judgment or rejection. The truth is, I had to change a few things in my life to convince myself that the time was right. In fact, anyone who waits for the “perfect moment” will never actually do anything; they fall victim to the well-known phenomenon of analysis paralysis —caused by an overwhelming influx of unmanageable information—where, despite wanting to do many things, they simply cannot decide where to begin.
To break free from this trap a state I’ve found myself submerged in on several occasions , I had to make those significant changes: replacing a bad habit with a good one, and a good habit with an even more excellent one. Consequently, the useless activities I used to perform on autopilot were supplanted by pursuits that uplifted my spirit, fueled my self-motivation, and kept me moving forward.
My days begin between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. and end between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. save for those rare occasions when I don't have to work the following day, in which case I might stay up a bit later . Yet, even then, I devote that time to activities that help me become a better human being, a better writer, and a better reader. After all, to write books that become bestsellers, one must read the authors who have already achieved that feat—often after enduring countless setbacks. Therefore, if I have experienced my fair share of setbacks, it simply means I fall within the statistical norm—and that, in itself, motivates me to keep pressing on.
Is it easy? Of course! Once we’ve built the habit, things become second nature—they happen automatically. However, during the growth phase—when we are battling our urge to sleep in a little longer, or fighting the temptation to get glued to social media feeds, consuming gossip, tales of infidelity, and whatever other junk content happens to be floating around—it feels like scaling a massive, incredibly steep mountain. With every step we take, we must pause to catch our breath, lest we tumble all the way back down to the starting point.
I’ve even overhauled my eating habits; I no longer eat three square meals a day, simply because I don’t need to. I eat only when I feel genuinely hungry. I dedicate specific time to writing—working on both my books and the various monetized social media platforms I participate in. And whenever I speak with my family—who are scattered across several countries—I drop whatever I happen to be doing to devote my undivided attention to them, offering them that same quality time I expect them to offer me. I provide nutrition and health counseling because it is my passion; I sing, I engage in playful self-reflection, and I listen to classical music because it uplifts my spirit. I give 100% in my work, striving to execute tasks as perfectly as possible; I constantly learn new things, and I listen to audiobooks during my commute. I share stories and anecdotes with those around me, always seeking…
All of this has enabled me to envision the person I aspire to be tomorrow—by doing today the very things I would be doing in the future, once I have achieved a new goal and attained the success I imagine and am working to make a reality.
If those who are successful today began with fewer advantages than I have, then victory is assured; I, too, can achieve and accomplish wonderful things—for that is what I was born to do: to fulfill my life's purpose on this earth.
