The Aharonov–Bohm effect is a quantum phenomenon in which a charged particle’s wavefunction acquires a measurable phase shift when the particle travels through a region where the magnetic field is zero but encloses a confined magnetic flux.

In the standard magnetic version, two coherent charged-particle beams pass along different paths around the flux, and when they recombine, the resulting interference pattern is shifted by an amount determined by the enclosed magnetic flux. May 20, 2026 Wednesday at 10:00 AM PST
