Hive recovers some of its price but continues to fall
Hive is a cryptocurrency with its own ecosystem that allows the creation and use of other tokens within its blockchain, in addition to having a stablecoin called the Hive Dollar HBD , designed to maintain parity with the US dollar. However, in the last year, Hive has experienced a significant drop of approximately 70% in its value, raising doubts about its stability and future.
One of the main problems highlighted is the use of bots that issue automated negative votes. On Hive, users accumulate voting power based on their participation Hive Power , which allows them to influence content monetization. Just as positive votes generate rewards for authors, negative votes can reduce or even eliminate those earnings. The problem arises when these negative votes are applied automatically by bots operating with blacklists. This causes some users to have their content demonetized regardless of its quality, leading to frustration and demotivation.
Among these mechanisms are lists like <a href=" Mark”</a , which feeds bots such as buildawhale and freebornsociety, which systematically penalize users included on these lists. Unlike other, more flexible systems, this lists don't allow affected users to easily get off the list, which exacerbates the situation.
As a result, many creators feel it's not worth participating in a platform where their efforts aren't fairly rewarded.
This environment has led to an exodus of users to other similar platforms like Blurt or Steemit, which, although they share some features with Hive, do not present the same level of problems with automated downvoting. Furthermore, Hive faces difficulties attracting new users, as the bad reputation generated by these practices discourages new participants.
The combination of user departures, a massive token sell-off, and a lack of new investors has contributed to Hive's price decline. Although small rebounds in its value have been observed—such as one recorded on May 5—these appear to be more related to general market trends, such as Bitcoin's growth, than to a solid internal recovery. Hive's future outlook is uncertain.
The loss of confidence affects both the main cryptocurrency and its stablecoin, HBD, which has occasionally lost its peg to the dollar. This generates insecurity among users, who may choose to withdraw their funds before they lose more value, thus fueling a negative cycle: the price falls, confidence decreases, and the price falls again.
In conclusion, Hive faces a crisis marked by structural problems in its rewards system, user attrition, and a general loss of trust. While a possible recovery cannot be ruled out, the short term looks challenging if these key factors are not addressed.
