When Courtesy Shields Injustice — My Decision to Walk the Path of Principle

How are you all? I hope everyone is having a good day. I am also doing well. Being well is not only necessary for ourselves, but also a happy thing for the people around us. Because when we are well, our body and mind become well. And then our life becomes happy. I am @maksudakawsar, I am connected to you from Bangladesh. I am a small blogger. Because there are many creative people around me who are always sharing good posts with their skills and qualifications. Besides, there are many creative people who are looking for such a platform to showcase their qualifications. But I am such a small user who does not have that much creativity. Still, I am a verified user of such a beautiful platform. That is why, despite being very busy, I constantly try to come up with new and different posts for you. That is why today I am here with a new post again. There is food for everything. Travel is th…

We often notice people around us who, instead of protesting against a wrongdoer’s injustice, continue to treat them with kindness. They extend such generosity that it appears as if the wrongdoer has committed no wrongdoing at all. On the other hand, there are simple, honest individuals who never tolerate injustice, never resort to pretension, never seek personal benefit through lies or deceit, and never compromise their integrity. Yet these are often the very people who are deprived of kindness and support.

Instead of receiving encouragement, these helpless and upright individuals are often burdened with unnecessary responsibilities—responsibilities they never asked for, responsibilities that weigh them down without reason. The injustice of this treatment deeply disturbs me. It seems as if the world rewards manipulation and pretension, while punishing sincerity and honesty. People who side with wrongdoers do not just fail to protest; they actively create an environment where the wrongdoer feels no guilt, no shame, and no need to change.

This silent support for injustice is far more dangerous than open wrongdoing. The wrongdoer acts once, but those who shield them with false courtesy keep that wrong alive for a long time. Their silence becomes complicity, and their kindness becomes a weapon against the truth.

I have observed, time and again, that those who refuse to act against injustice often present themselves as “neutral” or “peace-loving.” In reality, their inaction strengthens the hands of the wrongdoer. This makes the wrongdoer confident, even proud, while the honest person is left feeling cornered and helpless.

There are people who, despite knowing the truth, choose to smile and converse with the wrongdoer as if nothing has happened. They call it maturity, diplomacy, or keeping the peace. But to me, this is nothing but moral cowardice—a refusal to stand by the truth because it is uncomfortable or inconvenient.

I have seen how such behavior slowly corrodes the moral fabric of our surroundings. It sends the message that honesty is not valued, and wrongdoing carries no real consequence. In such an environment, those who try to live by principles are either ignored or given extra burdens as if they owe something to the world for being truthful.

I cannot accept this. I refuse to be part of a culture where wrongdoers are embraced and truth-tellers are sidelined. That is why I have made a personal decision: I will only speak to such wrongdoers when absolutely necessary. I will maintain a polite distance, but I will not offer them the warmth and companionship that might make them feel their actions are acceptable.

This is not about hatred or revenge. It is about protecting my own moral boundaries and refusing to give space to falsehood. When you treat a wrongdoer with the same affection as an honest person, you erase the moral line that separates truth from lies, right from wrong. That line must never be erased.

I know some will say, “You can’t change the world with such decisions.” Perhaps that is true. But I am not trying to change the entire world. I am trying to live in a way that allows me to respect myself when I look in the mirror. My conscience is worth more than false harmony.

Life is too short to waste on meaningless politeness toward those who exploit it. I would rather invest my time and energy in supporting the honest, encouraging the courageous, and standing beside those who choose integrity over convenience.

Every act of silence toward injustice is an endorsement of it. And every act of kindness toward a wrongdoer is an insult to the victim. I do not wish to be guilty of either.

By keeping my words limited and my distance clear, I am not isolating myself; I am safeguarding my values. I am telling the world that there is a difference between being civil and being complicit. Civility does not mean you must accept what is wrong—it simply means you refuse to lose your dignity while defending what is right.

Perhaps my choice will make me less popular in certain circles. Perhaps it will cost me some relationships. But if those relationships require me to ignore the truth, they are not worth keeping. I would rather have a small circle built on respect and honesty than a crowd built on pretense and compromise.

At the end of the day, my path may be lonelier, but it will be cleaner. And when I stand for the truth, even if I stand alone, I know I will never truly be alone—because integrity has a way of attracting others who live by the same light.

And so, I continue on this path, speaking only as much as is necessary to those who choose injustice, and offering my full heart only to those who honor what is right. In a world where courtesy often shields wrongdoing, I choose to let my courtesy be guided by conscience, not convenience.
