On June 5 and 6, 2025, something rare is happening in Germany: Vattenfall and Netto are offering free charging for your EV at selected Netto stores across the country. No app, no registration, no RFID card – just plug in and charge.

Am 5. und 6. Juni 2025 passiert etwas Seltenes in Deutschland: Vattenfall und Netto bieten an ausgewählten Netto-Filialen im ganzen Land das kostenlose Laden deines E-Autos an. Keine App, keine Registrierung, keine Ladekarte – einfach einstecken und losladen.

I almost couldn’t believe it when I read the headline. Free charging? In 2025? While block fees and confusing tariffs dominate our daily lives as EV drivers? For once, there’s a breath of fresh air – and it comes with a full battery.

Ich konnte es kaum glauben, als ich die Überschrift las. Kostenloses Laden? Im Jahr 2025? Während Blockiergebühren und undurchsichtige Tarife unseren Alltag als E-Autofahrer bestimmen? Für einen Moment gibt es frischen Wind – und der kommt mit einem vollen Akku.

Naturally, one question came to mind: Will this action only take place in the south again? So many campaigns and benefits have passed us by in the north. I’ve learned to keep my expectations low – but this time, I was positively surprised.

Natürlich kam mir sofort eine Frage in den Kopf: Wird diese Aktion wieder nur im Süden stattfinden? So viele Kampagnen und Vorteile gingen in der Vergangenheit am Norden vorbei. Ich habe gelernt, meine Erwartungen klein zu halten – doch diesmal wurde ich positiv überrascht.

📍 Yes – even in Greifswald there are two participating Netto locations :

- Netto, Loitzer Landstraße 36a ABB Terra 124 CCS fast charger, 2x 120 kW – 24/7 accessible.

- Netto, Anklamer Straße 18 Two ABB Terra 184 CCS chargers, each with 2x 120 kW – also 24/7 accessible.

These stations are part of the growing collaboration between Netto and Vattenfall – by the end of 2024, 470 fast chargers with 940 charging points are to be rolled out at over 270 Netto branches.

Diese Stationen sind Teil der wachsenden Kooperation zwischen Netto und Vattenfall – bis Ende 2024 sollen 470 Schnelllader mit 940 Ladepunkten an über 270 Netto-Standorten entstehen.

🤔 But Am I a Freeloader Now? 🤔 Bin ich jetzt ein Schmarotzer?

Let’s be honest – every time an EV driver gets something for free, there’s a part of the internet ready to throw stones. “Freeloaders!” “Why do they get something for free while we pay for gas?” But let’s break it down calmly.

Seien wir ehrlich – jedes Mal, wenn E-Autofahrer etwas gratis bekommen, steht irgendwo im Internet schon jemand mit dem virtuellen Steinwurf bereit. „Schmarotzer!“ „Warum kriegen die was umsonst und wir müssen unseren Sprit zahlen?“ Aber schauen wir genauer hin.

This is not about privilege. It’s a marketing campaign – just like free coffee samples or fuel vouchers from time to time. No one is forced to join, and nobody loses out. On the contrary – we all gain awareness for sustainable mobility.

Es geht hier nicht um Bevorzugung. Es ist eine Marketing-Aktion – wie gratis Kaffeeproben oder Tankgutscheine. Niemand wird gezwungen mitzumachen, und niemand verliert dadurch etwas. Im Gegenteil: Es schafft Bewusstsein für nachhaltige Mobilität.

And let’s not forget – we EV drivers usually pay more, deal with blocked chargers, high AC/DC prices, and often complicated tariffs. So if we finally get two days of easy, free charging – that’s not freeloading. That’s balance.

Und nicht vergessen: Wir E-Autofahrer zahlen im Alltag oft mehr, kämpfen mit blockierten Säulen, hohen AC/DC-Preisen und Tarifwirrwarr. Wenn es also mal zwei Tage lang kostenlos und unkompliziert geht – dann ist das kein Schmarotzertum. Sondern ein kleiner Ausgleich.

This campaign runs from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM , and you don't even have to shop at Netto to take part. Just plug in and get up to 250 kilometers of range in 30 minutes , depending on your EV and the charger.

Die Aktion läuft jeweils von 6:00 bis 22:00 Uhr , und man muss nicht mal bei Netto einkaufen, um sie zu nutzen. Einfach einstecken und bis zu 250 Kilometer Reichweite in 30 Minuten gewinnen – je nach Fahrzeug und Ladeleistung.

I’ll definitely support this – not just for the charge, but because this shows that change is possible , even in the north. If we want electromobility to be accepted by the masses, we need more campaigns like this. Free, simple, public.

Ich werde das auf jeden Fall unterstützen – nicht nur wegen des Stroms, sondern weil das zeigt: Veränderung ist möglich , sogar bei uns im Norden. Wenn Elektromobilität von der breiten Masse angenommen werden soll, brauchen wir mehr solcher Aktionen. Kostenlos, einfach, öffentlich.
